David Foster Wallace, the well-known novelist who recently passed away, will surely be missed by most writers in the United States.
The author died on September 12th. He was found dead inside his home in Claremont, California.
Wallace, who became famous with his 1996 novel “Infinite Jest,” has apparently committed suicide. Police officers found his body hanged in his home on Friday night.
The American novelist made a name for himself through “The Broom of the System” in 1987. The Ithaca, New York-born author received the US National Book Award and was included by Time Magazine in its list of 100 Best English-language Novels.
When asked about Wallace’s death, well-known American novelist Richard Powers said it was "beyond describing" and labeled the deceased author as "the best of our generation."
Other members of the writers’ community praised the talented author who surprisingly hanged himself. AM Homes, writer of “The End of Alice,” portrayed Wallace as "a wonderful writer, a generous friend and a singular talent".
"I am so sad - stunned. It reminds us all of how fragile we are and how close at hand the darkness is,” the female author added.
Wallace’s most successful writing was “Infinite Jest,” published in 1996. The novel takes place in a future parody version of North America, more precisely in an elite tennis academy and a drug rehabilitation centre. The work became famous mainly for its complex humor.
Wallace is also very well known for his short fiction works which he published in magazines such as GQ, Esquire and Harper's.
