Apparently, the “fornication” in “Californication” really
got to the 48-year-old actor and long-time sex symbol David Duchovny, who
checked into a rehab center to cure sex addiction.
Although rumors and
speculations have been circulating ever since the actor became worldwide famous
as the sexy non-believing agent Fox Mulder in hit TV series “X-files,” and
lately, as an over-sexed struggling writer on Showtime's “Californication,”
there was never an actual admission of any abnormal sexual behavior.
"I have voluntarily entered a facility for the
treatment of sex addiction," Duchovny said in a statement released
Thursday by his attorney, Stanton "Larry" Stein to People magazine.
No other explanations were given as to the nature and gravity of his condition,
nor were there any suggestions of adultery or any other troubles in his
marriage with actress Téa Leoni.
Father of two children, daughter Madelaine
West, 9, and son Kyd, 6, Duchovny now says he just wants to deal with his
addiction quietly. "I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children
as we deal with this situation as a family.”
Of course, there were the occasional hints from the actor
himself, like his recent statement of some steamy action in a Vancouver sauna, where David and his wife,
were “just all over each other.”
Téa herself talked about her husband’s alleged
sex addiction on various occasions, but always denied it, as in a 1998
interview, when she stated: “David was accused of being a sex addict, which I
always found very exciting. And then I found out it wasn't true."
In the light of the latest events, Téa’s statement, although
ten years old, only proves one thing, something that David was trying to tell
us all along: “The Truth Is Out There.”
