One of David Copperfield’s assistants has suffered a serious injury during one of the famous magician’s performances. The assistant was severely injured on Wednesday when he walked into an industrial fan used in David Copperfield's Las Vegas illusionist stage show.
The incident happened while performing an illusion during which David Copperfield attempts to walk through the rotating blades of a 12-foot high industrial fan. While one of the magician’s illusion technicians was rotating the industrial fan and its platform waiting for Mr. Copperfield to carry out his performance, the assistant was accidentally pulled into the vortex of the moving fan blades. The assistant suffered injury to his arms and face, according Usmagazine.com which cited a rep for the show.
The name of the assistant is Brandon. The assistant, whose last name was not released for privacy reasons, underwent extensive surgery to his arm and face. He is ok and recovering at the moment.
"We're just thankful Brandon's injuries weren't worse," Copperfield said in a statement. The world-wide-known magician was the first one to see Brandon after the surgery.
According to an eyewitness from the audience of David Copperfield’s performance called "An Intimate Evening of Grand Illusion" there were blood stains everywhere and the other assistants dragged Brandon out of the vortex.
Copperfield began performing professionally at the tender age of 12 and became the youngest person ever admitted to study at the Society of American Magicians, a bio on his official website says. By age 16, he was teaching a course on magic at New York University, it adds.
Now, at 51, Copperfield is among the world’s best known illusionists, massively rich and a living legend.
