If the public will donate large sums of money following the “Idol Gives Back” campaign, that will surely not happen due to the inspirational songs the Idol contestants performed on Tuesday. As, this week, the show is all about giving and caring, the Idols were requested to sing inspirational songs, but none of them managed to rise to expectations.

David Cook, Syesha Mercado and Carly Smithson, or at least two of them, will probably end in the bottom three. This probably means that Kristy Lee Cook may survive another week due to an excellent song choice.

David Cook announced he would sing “Innocent” by his favorite band, Our Lady Peace. Leaving aside the pitch changes that did not work for David’s voice, what was with the palm-flashing gesture? Luckily for him, with the charitable campaign on the run, none of the judges could disagree with the “give back” message written on his palm. However, he appeared arrogant and it will eventually win him a ticket home.

Syesha Mercado made a big mistake by choosing a song that had also been performed by previous Idol winner Fantasia Barrino – Whitney Houston’s “I Believe.”  It probably wouldn’t have been such a bad performance if it couldn’t have been compared to Fantasia’s, which was much better.

Carly Smithson did not do a very good job with Queen’s “The Show Must Go On.” The choice could have been promising, if she hadn’t sung it so aggressively and angrily. So not inspirational.

The only good performances were by Jason Castro, who managed to pull off a seemingly impossible stunt, and Kristy Lee Cook (yes, the Vote for the Worst pick!). Jason Castro was inspired to choose Israel Kamakawiwo'ole’s version of “Over the Rainbow,” which he performed complete with ukulele. The song was a breath of fresh air among all the other cheesy choices.

Kristy Lee Cook felt very excited to finally be appreciated by the judges, after singing Martina McBride’s song “Anyway.”

Because she sang ok, imagine a hilarious bottom 3 of Carly, David Cook, and Michael Johns. Hysterical! Imagine a bottom 2 of Carly and Brooke, outcrying each other hysterically and one going home. Imagine the outrage. This must happen. Entertainment central! America would be outraged since Kristy is obviously the least consistent left. So vote harder, harder, harder for Kristy, reads the Vote for the Worst website.

Last week, Ramiele Malubay was given the boot from Americal Idol. Ramiele's song of choice "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" has failed to impress and she seemed unable to "get" country music. Simon had thought that the performance was "forgettable" and "reminiscent of something you would see and hear on a cruise ship." Judge Randy Jackson pronounced Malubay's performance both "pretty good" and "kind of alright," but it wasn't enough to lure in a sufficient number of voters to get her through another week. Paula Abdul said she was proud of Malubay, but that's what she usually says to everybody. Last week, all the contestants in the bottom three were females.
