Media reports on Friday revealed that David Beckham is
scheduled to appear in the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics on August
24.
The appearance of the 33-year-old England international on the top of a London bus was supposed to be a closely guarded secret until details were leaked in advance, the BBC reported.
Beckham will stand at the side of London Mayor Boris Johnson when International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge hands him the flag for the host city of the next summer games in 2012.
During London's eight-minute presentation ceremony, Beckham set to to stand on the top of one of London's red double-decker buses and kick a football into the crowd.
The Daily Telegraph newspaper said Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and pop star Leona Lewis will sing a duet during the show, which will also feature hundreds of dancers performing ballet and break-dancing.
Organizers of the show as well as the IOC expressed disappointment at the failure to keep all the details of the performance under wraps.
People connected with it said the London segment will be in stark contrast to the Chinese goodbye and will also "contain quite a lot of humour," according to the BBC.
