LeRoi Moore, the saxophonist of the Dave Matthews Band, died Tuesday afternoon after complications caused by an early ATV accident. The band's website will pay a tribute to their late member for the next days.
LeRoi Moore suffered an ATV accident at his farm on June 30. Among the injuries that the musician sustained were a punctured lung and several broken ribs. His recovery seemed to have gone fine, and he was even allowed out of the hospital. Moore returned to his home to undergo an intensive physical rehabilitation program.
On August 17, unknown complications led to his hospitalization in the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles where he passed away on Tuesday afternoon.
On Tuesday night, the band posted the following announcement on their website: "We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. LeRoi had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program."
Dave Matthews Band performed Tuesday evening at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The saxophonist that replaced LeRoi Moore on the gig was Jeff Collins of the Bela Fleck and the Flecktones band. Jeff Collins had been the replacement for Moore ever since his accident.
LeRoi Moore was a jazz saxophonist, and one of the founding members of the Dave Matthews Band. He was 46 years old.
