Iran has taken advantage of a computer security breach and got its hands on important information about the Marine One, the helicopter of the Barack Obama, United States’ President, NBC affiliate WPNI reported.
This fact was revealed by Internet security company Tiversa. The Cranberry Township, Pa.-based company said it discovered a security breach that was exploited to transfer military information to an IP address in Iran. The information reportedly included planned engineering upgrades, avionic schematics, and computer network information.
Bob Boback, the chief executive officer of the company that monitors peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, said the file found by Tiversa contained the entire blueprints and avionics package for Marine One.
"What appears to be a defense contractor in Bethesda, Md., had a file-sharing program on one of their systems that also contained highly sensitive blueprints for Marine One," Mr. Boback told WPXI.
The file also contained financial information about Marine One. Triversa’s CEO said that probably a company employee downloaded a file-sharing program to exchange music or video content such as LimeWire or BearShare and did not realize the potential problems. Tiversa makes products that monitor online file sharing.
The company said they found out where the information came from and the computer from where it came from, so someone will most likely get fired. Tiversa also said that it’s no accident that the information was leeched in Iran, which like other countries such Pakistan, Yemen, Qatar and China, is very active in searching information leaks of this sort.
