Wednesday, at the 35th annual edition of People’s Choice Awards, „The Dark Knight” was awarded all five trophies it had been nominated for, including favorite cast, superhero, action movie and on-screen matchup, the latter for Christian Bale as Batman and the late Heath Ledger as Joker.

For the CBS ceremony, which was hosted by Queen Latifah and held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, stars such as Adam Sandler, Kate Hudson, Robin Williams, Hugh Laurie and Reese Witherspoon were all present to accept their awards.

Witherspoon, who won an Oscar back in 2005 for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in „Walk the Line,” received the favorite female movie star award, saying that the honor was a great way to begin the new year. Jokingly, she added that a few years before, she had won an award for having sung in a movie, while this year, she won another for having had a baby throw up on her.

Among the winners selected by Internet voters in categories such as movies, television and music, were also „Dancing With the Stars” as favorite reality show, Carrie Underwood as favorite female singer, „House” as favorite TV drama, Brad Pitt as favorite leading man, Angelina Jolie as favorite female action star and Ellen DeGeneres as favorite talk show host.

Furthermore, „WALL-E” was voted best family movie, „27 Dresses” best comedy and „The Secret Life of Bees” best independent movie.

Will Smith was named both the top male action star and best male movie star, while actress Kate Hudson won the best leading lady award.

As for best TV comedy, Internet surfers chose „Two and a half Men,” whereas „The Simpsons” earned the best TV animated comedy award.
