"Dark Knight" star Christian Bale was put under arrest Tuesday in London by police officers in connection with an assault. The investigators reportedly arrested the actor for assaulting two members of his family.
After being questioned by the British police, Bale was released. The 34-year-old star spent about four hours at a London police station. There were no charges brought against him and he was released on bail pending further inquiries until September.
According to the London media, Bale allegedly assaulted his mother and sister who then complained. The alleged family brawl supposedly occurred at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Sunday night, a day before the European premiere of "The Dark Knight."
The actor released a statement in which he denied everything, said Schillings, Bale’s London-based law firm.
"Christian Bale attended a London police station today on a voluntary basis. Bale, who denies the allegation, cooperated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police," the statement read.
According to British newspaper The Sun, police investigators did not question Bale until Tuesday because they did not want to interfere with Monday's European premiere of the new Batman movie, which the actor attended. The newspaper also mentioned that Sharon and Jenny Bale had made the complaint. The star actor has three sisters: Erin, Sharon, and Louise Bale.
The news of the alleged family dispute and Bale’s arrest came just a few days after "The Dark Knight," took a record $158.4 million at the box office in its opening weekend.
"A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault," said a London police spokesman who did not refer to Bale by his name and chose to speak in conditions of anonymity due to the fact that he is not authorized to be identified under police policy..
On Monday, "The Dark Knight" fetched $24.5 million from U.S. and Canada (Nielsen EDI) setting a new record domestic gross for a nonweekend, nonholiday, nonopening day. It has surpassed the $18.1 million rung up by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" on July 10, 2006.
