“Quantum of Solace” made its world premiere Wednesday night
in London, with
Princes William and Henry adding wattage to the event that had stars Daniel
Craig, Judi Dench and Mathieu Amalric stroll the red carpet.
The latest installment in the James Bond franchise made its
world debut at London’s
famous Odeon Leicester Square,
in a royal gala which benefited military charities Help for Heroes and the
Royal British Legion.
Princes William and Henry attended the event and spent ample
time on the red carpet chatting with around two hundred servicemen and women, veterans
and their families who had been invited to the premiere. Both royal siblings
are officers in the British army. Harry served on the front line in Afghanistan
this year. The aim was to raise more than £500,000 from the evening for
military charities. Daniel Craig, who portrays James Bond for the second time
after 2006’s “Casino Royale,” strolled the red carpet with longtime girlfriend Satsuki
Mitchell, his right arm in a sling as a result of injuries sustained during
filming of his own stunts as 007.
Dame Judi Dench, who portrays his boss M, was also there, as
were Mathieu Amalric, the current villain, Jeffrey Wright and Bond girls Gemma
Arterton and Olga Kurylenko. Jack White, who sings the current Bond theme song
with Alicia Keys, was also present for the premiere.
Asked by one of the veterans who his favorite James Bond
actor of all times was, without blinking twice Prince Harry replied that
“there’s only one Bond” and that for him he is Sean Connery.
Daniel Craig was posed a similar question by reporters – his
favorite Bond girl. He gladly replied, “The one on my arm, of course.”
“Quantum of Solace” is the 22nd Bond film. Directed by Marc Foster,
it is the first true sequel in the franchise, as it picks up from where “Casino
Royale” ended and seeks continuation. Foster said at the premiere that while he
had felt honored to be asked to direct the following film, he had declined
because he had other projects lined up.
“Quantum of Solace” opens in North
America on November 14.
