After a successful collaboration in the war drama, “Defiance,” British actors Daniel Craig and Jamie Bell will rejoin in Steven Spielberg's big screen adaptation of the long-running comic book series, “Tintin.”
Based on the Georges Remi’s character, the project, which will be a trilogy, has pretty much been a work in progress ever since directors Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson announced in late December 2007 they had found funds to get started.
New reports suggest the production for the first movie of the series already kicked off with Steven Spielberg on the helm. “Billie Elliot” star Jamie Bell will play the titular character in “The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn,” and his “Defiance” co-star Daniel Craig, who will be playing villain Red Rackham.
The actors, who played two of the four Jewish Bielski brothers in “Defiance,” will be joining the already confirmed cast formed by Andy Serkis, who previously worked with Peter Jackson on “Lord of the Rings” and “King Kong,” Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook.
Writer Steven Moffat, who worked on the script, was forced to leave the project when he replaced Russell T Davies as lead writer and executive producer on “Doctor Who.”
The 2011 feature is being produced by Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy and Peter Jackson, who will direct the sequel. Jackson's Weta Digital effects house developed the performance-capture technology the directors will use.
Since it made its first appearance in 1929, in a Belgian newspaper, the popular series sold over 200 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 70 languages.
