Los Angeles - Dallas will host the 2010 All-Star Game, but it will have a Texas twist and will be played at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium, the NBA announced on Thursday.
"Dallas is a vibrant city with a passionate sports fan base that will embrace the NBA All-Star experience," league commissioner David Stern said. "We appreciate the collaborative efforts of Mark Cuban and Jerry Jones on what will surely be one of the most memorable basketball events of all time."
Fan favourite events, including the Rookie Challenge, Slam Dunk Competition and The 3-Point Shootout, will be held at the American Airlines Center - home of the Mavericks on Friday and Saturday.
However, the game will be held on Sunday, February 14 at the Cowboys football stadium, scheduled to open before the 2009 NFL season and able to accommodate 80,000 fans, 50,000 for basketball.
"The NBA All-Star Game coming to the Cowboys new stadium is a testament to the vision and passion that (Mavericks owner) Mark Cuban brings to sports," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. "We're proud to be partners with Mark, the Mavericks and the NBA, and we know that North Texas will be a first class host for this world class event."
This is the first time the All-Star Game will be played in a stadium since 1996 when it was in San Antonio's Alamodome and drew 36,037 fans.
It's also marks the first time the various competitions will be split up into two different venues since 1989 when the game was played in Houston's Astrodome and the other events at the summit.
Phoenix will host this season's All-Star Weekend, February 13-15.
