China’s top officials accused the Dalai Lama of using the Tibet protests to spoil the Olympic Games that are scheduled to be hosted in Beijing in August.
The country’s state media is full of articles depicting the Tibetan spiritual leader as a saboteur who is behind the protests that started in Lhasa. According to the Chinese, Dalai Lama will try to stir up the protest event more so he can take the Games hostage and force Beijing to consider the Tibetan independence.
"In 2008, all the world's people are looking forward to the Olympics, but the Dalai Lama clique aims to take the Games hostage and force the Chinese government to yield on the 'Tibetan independence' issue," an article said.
The Chinese newspapers reminded the readers of several violent incidents that happened over the past 50 years attempting to convince them that the Dalai Lama’s promises of non-violence were "a lie from beginning to end".
The Chinese government have posted the photographs of 21 "most wanted" in the Lhasa rioting.
However, the Dalai Lama has firmly denied such allegations. The spiritual leader who is and always has been a promoter of nonviolence has proven on many occasions that he is not “a wolf in monk's robes”. In fact, His Holiness said he supports holding the Olympics in Beijing and, when discussing with the radical Tibetans about the protests, Dalai Lama said they shouldn’t consider obtaining Tibet independence, but instead should live together with the Chinese.
"I always support [that] the Olympics should ... take place in Beijing ... so that more than one billion human beings, that means Chinese, they feel proud of it," said Tibet’s spiritual leader at a Buddhist prayer session in New Delhi.
The Lhasa protests sent a shock wave all over the world and many now fear that the road of the Olympic torch relay, which will be carried through 20 countries before the Beijing Olympics, will be more difficult as it could trigger more protests against China-Tibet issue.
