Today,
Comedy Central announced that this October, comedian Stephen Colbert’s DNA will
be sent to the International Space Station, after having been digitized.
Video game designer Richard Garriott, who is one of the few private citizens to travel to space,
will be the one to release Colbert’s DNA into the outer-space. The time capsule
will also include a history of human
achievements and personal messages.
Stephen
Colbert’s first professional performance was as an understudy for Steve Carell
at Second City Chicago, alongside Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris, with whom he
later developed the comedy series “Exit 57.” He also appeared on the “Dana
Carvey Show” before his collaboration with the aforementioned comedians gave
rise to the cult TV series “Strangers with Candy.” His portrayal of a gay
history teacher who had yet to come out of the closet named Chuck Noblet earned
him a fair share of recognition. After working for a while as a correspondent on
Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” he began hosting, in 2005, a spin-off series called “The Colbert
Report.” The show rapidly became one of Comedy Central’s highest-rated series,
earning the comedian three Emmy nominations.
In 2006,
Colbert was named one of the 100 most influential people by “Time” magazine.
Moreover, “I Am America (And So Can You!) “hit number one on
the "New York Times" best seller list.
On April
29, 2006,
Stephen Colbert performed as a featured entertainer at the White House
Correspondents' Association Dinner.
All in all, Colbert is not bad a choice for
the human race to make a fine first impression on aliens.
