Rapper DMX (real name Earl Simmons) had a date with Justice,
impersonated in this case by an Arizona
courtroom, on September 23, facing charges of animal cruelty (again) and drug
possession (again).
A day before his court date, the star of “Cradle 2 The Grave”
was admitted to an Aventura, Florida
hospital. The striking part of the case is, of course, the coincidence of him
being hospitalized a day before he was supposed to appear in court. Secondly, a
lot of eyebrows were raised when his lawyer, Bradford Cohen, would not specify
what exactly made DMX willingly commit himself in a hospital. Cohen denied any
allusions to his client purposefully going to hospital to avoid appearing in
court.
It appears, however, that DMX was committed for “fear of
stroke” (rumor denied by his lawyer), and doctors say he is out of any kind of
physical danger and will spend a maximum of two more nights in the hospital. Cohen
also confirmed that his ailment was neither long-term nor life threatening, and
assured the press the rapper would be alright.
This strange coincidence comes after DMX was extradited from
Florida to an Arizona jail in September this year, facing
the aforementioned charges, along with traffic violations and defrauding a
hospital with an invalid Social Security number and name, reports Reuters.
An interesting fact is that DMX had a separate, yet similar
experience in August, when he was also hospitalized a day before his court
date. Skeptics might put two and two together and foresee a chain of
hospitalization in key moments for the rapper.
Due to his impromptu hospitalization, however, the rapper’s
court date was postponed to September 29, but his appearance in court depends
on his hospital discharge date, which may suffer modifications. DMX is also
scheduled to attend a number of hearings in the following weeks.
