Rapper DMX was arrested on Thursday at a store in Florida for not showing up at a Phoenix court hearing on drug charges,
authorities said and his legal representative confirmed, The Associated Press
reported.
The well-known rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was
detained outside a Wal-Mart store in north Miami Beach on a warrant issued by a
Maricopa County Superior, according to Joe Arpaio, Maricopa County Sheriff,
cited by Reuters.
DMX, 37, who owns a residence in the vicinity of Phoenix, failed to attend
on Tuesday a pretrial conference on four counts of possessing drug
paraphernalia and one count of marijuana possession. As reported by the AP, the
rapper checked into a Miami
hospital the same day he was due to show up in court and was intending to enter
a rehab facility subsequently.
Furthermore, the chart-breaking rapper was also arrested in
May on drug and animal cruelty charges after officials raided his Cave Creek,
Arizona, residence, where they found dog carcasses and half-starved pit bulls.
Known for his law-breaking nature, DMX also faces two felony charges for faking
his identity and offering false information during a stay at the Mayo Clinic in
Scottsdale, Arizona, trying to avoid paying for medical
expenses. According to Joe Arpaio, the rap star went to the clinic in April
under the name “Troy Jones” and failed to pay a $7,500 bill worth of medical
care for pneumonia.
“This guy is treating our legal system like a revolving door
and it’s time we closed the cell door on him,” Joe Arpaio told Reuters.
