Cox Plans On Offering Wireless Services

Cox Communications has announced on Monday that it will team up with Sprint Nextel in order to begin offering wireless mobile phone services and build its own 3G network.

Cox Communications, owned by Cox Enterprises, is one of the largest companies in the U.S.A offering cable television and telecommunication services, currently being the third largest, offering its services to approximately 5.9 million customers. Their current announcement will be a major change in the company, success meaning that Verizon or AT&T will be getting a very competent adversary. Cox is expected to enter the market in 2009, providing cable television, high speed Internet connections and telephone services.

The plan Cox has come up with is very ingenious, as it will offer a variety of services to an already stable number of customers. If all goes according to plan, Cox customers will be able to pay everything to only one company that will offer them everything from telephone to cable TV. Cox also announced that it will build its own 3G network and that they have also been testing 4G technology. So far, Cox has invested approximately $500 million in acquiring wireless spectrum, infrastructure and human resources.

All in all, 2009 will be an interesting year as Cox engages in a direct competition with the Verizon and AT&T giants. Verizon and AT&T have already provided their users with cable television, high speed Internet connections and telephone services. The move towards wireless services is regarded by Cox as a necessary change, in order to keep up with the times and be more competitive.
