Cox Communications today confirmed plans to offers customers wireless services as of next year, including digital cable, high-speed Internet and telephone. The company described this step as another milestone in the company’s history, after being the first to introduce a voice, video and data bundle to the market over a decade ago.
"Wireless service will be a key driver to Cox’s future growth," said Pat Esser, president of Cox Communications. "As wireless communications enters the new generation, we are uniquely positioned to deliver the entertainment and communications services our customers want, whenever, however and wherever they want them."
The cable service provider promised to deliver the best customer experience by utilizing the Nationwide Sprint Network, in parallel with building its very own 3G wireless network. The company also said it will be testing the 4G technology based on LTE (long term evolution).
The announcement came after Cox Communications acquired $500 million worth of wireless spectrum in the FCC auction and sketched plans to develop an infrastructure to support its own advanced wireless service.
"Our bundled customers will become even ‘stickier’ as we offer them the best customer experience," Esser added. "To deliver the best customer experience, we will manage every aspect of the service, from product development to marketing and sales to back-office operations and customer support and billing."
Cox promises to offer an easy-to-use wireless service that integrates perfectly with the customers’ lifestyle, allowing them to use their mobile phones to access television favorites for example, or program their DVR, access content on their home computer and much more.
