After a two-month break, Tiger Woods is back and takes the
lead with four strokes ahead of his compatriot Jim Furyk in the Target World
Challenge competition that takes place in Thousand
Oaks, California.
"I've never taken a layoff this long before,"
Woods said to reporters. "It's usually probably four or five weeks,
certainly not 10 weeks."
Hosting the tournament, Woods, who shot a 10-under-par 62 in
the second round and now has a total of 13-under-par 131, is ahead of Jim
Furyk, who shot 5-under-par 67 in the second round and has a total of
9-under-par 135.
"Tiger played a heck of a round out there at
10-under," Furyk said. "I went in there with the lead today and shot
a good number, and I'm pretty far back. So, my hats off to him” he added.
However, the double-bogey on the final hole put Woods in an
unpleasant position for the first day of the tournament: “I hit the ball just a
little better than I did yesterday but I did a lot more putts.’ said Woods
according to Reuters. “I didn’t throw away a good round like yesterday” he
added.
Following Woods lead is Furyk – world number three, in the
second place, and masters champion Zach Johnson, also from the United States,
in the third place, with 8-under-par 136 overall the two days. Padraig
Harrington, former European Order of Merit and British Open winner comes forth,
with 6-under-par 138.
The winner of the tournament will get $1.35 million, and
each participant will get no less than $170,000 this week. Should Woods, all
his earnings will be sent to Tiger
Woods Learning
Center and Tiger Woods
Foundation that helps children through scholarships, different programs, grant
or junior golf team.
