Katie Couric informed reporters on Friday that she does not
plan to quit her job as CBS Evening News anchor, rejecting rumors regarding her
departure from a nightly broadcast that has been trying to gain a significant
number of viewers since her greatly promoted appearance.
Furthermore, she told an assembly of television critics that
in spite of the speculations, she had no intention of leaving the television
company.
Katie Couric's future at CBS was strongly questioned after
the Wall Street Journal released a story in April this year, announcing that
the Evening News anchor was very likely to leave her function even before the
end of her contract, which expires in 2011. Moreover, the Journal added that it
was very possible she left in January 2009, after the new U.S.
president is proclaimed.
Katie Couric was one of the hosts of NBC's highly rated
morning program “Today” for approximately 15 years. However, she left her
position at NBC in September 2006 for one of its rivals and became the first
woman solo anchor of an important U.S.
network evening newscast. Nonetheless, CBS Evening News remains on the third
spot in the ratings, behind other newscasts belonging to NBC and ABC.
Sean McManus, CBS News and Sports President, confirmed
reporters via satellite Katie Couric's intention to stick with CBS.
The well-known television figure is estimated to earn
approximately $15 million a year and assured everyone that she was staying.
"I have no plans to leave anytime soon. I'm very committed to the people
here and the product”, she said.
