Gregg and Brittiny Peters, a Georgia couple who were facing money issues arising from increasing medical expenses for their two young disabled children, resorted to selling everything they owned on eBay in order to remain solvent.
Consequently, on Thursday, they accepted a winning $20,000 eBay bid for all their possessions except their house, but they also came into a very pleasant surprise since the winning bidders, Donnia and Keith Blair of Texas, said they wanted to offer the couple the money but let them keep their belongings, as well.
Nevertheless, the Peters said that the point of their having put their stuff up for auction had been to make a clean slate start and not to become a charity case for others.
Donnia Blair stated for the Associated Press that the decision was not in the couple’s hands anymore and that they had worked really hard to come to own their things, adding that she and her husband were in the position to help them overcome their hardships.
The Peters’ financial issues aggravated last April, when their 2-year-old son Noah was diagnosed with autism and with sensory and gastrointestinal disorders, while some months later, in the summer, their 7-year-old daughter Ayla was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis.
The special treatments their two children need cost about $2,000 a month and the couple also have a $1,400 mortgage on their house to pay, Bittiny Peters revealed, who also said that she was a stay-at-home mom, while her husband ran a tennis academy for middle and high school students.
Gregg and Brittiny Peters are also parents to a 1-year-old son named Eli.
