Amy Winehouse’s husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, was handcuffed
and taken away by police right in front of her over an alleged plot to pervert
the course of justice, British newspaper Daily Mirror reported.
As she frantically threw her arms around Fielder-Civil’s
neck, hugging and kissing him, Winehouse repeatedly said: “Baby, I love you.
Baby, I'll be fine.” She managed to tell him “I love you” one more time before
the police officers rushed him into a car.
“We arrested four men -- two 25 years old, one 22 and one
19, in connection with an allegation of perverting the course of justice.
Currently they are in custody at North London
police stations,” a police spokesperson said.
Just hours before the incident, the troubled singer’s Camden house was raided
by police, part of an “ongoing investigation” into allegations of perverting
the course of justice. Neither Winehouse nor her husband, were home at that
time.
The 24-year-old singer's spokesman Shane O’Neill refused to
comment in detail on the incident but said: “The only thing I can tell you is
that it has nothing to do with drugs and that Amy is fine and she has not been
arrested or charged.”
According to The Mirror, the police were tipped off by the
newspaper to the alleged plot aiming to halt a trial in which Fielder-Civil and
pal Michael Brown are accused of assaulting a barman causing GBH with intent.
It is claimed 200,000 pounds would have been paid to alleged victim James King
to withdraw his police statement.
