The forceful speech delivered by Sen. Joe Biden did not
avoid a ratings decrease on the third night of the Democratic National
Convention.
An estimated 24 million viewers tuned in to watch the
Senator accept the nomination for vice president on Wednesday night, compared
to the 25.97 million viewers who watched Sen. Hillary Clinton’s speech on the
second night of the gathering held once in every four years, according to
Nielsen estimates.
CNN was the only cabler to improve its Tuesday score, luring
5.38 million viewers, up 12% weighed against the second night’s 4.8 million
viewers. MSNBC registered a 12% slip, while Fox News saw a major 22% dropoff.
However, CNN and NBC ended up in a fight over who truly
attracted most viewers during the 10 p.m. hour. Although NBC triumphed on
Wednesday night with an average of 5.46 million viewers, CNN explained that the
count prolonged to 11:03 p.m., 3 minutes over the 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. hour. If
only the 60 minutes of transmission are measured, CNN beat NBC by a whisker.
As on previous nights, the most important segment of the
audience, approximately 12.5 million viewers, was age 55 or more. Nevertheless,
the segment dropped with 1.3 million compared to the previous night.
In addition to this, 18.1 million viewers were white, while
4.4 million were African-American and 1.15 million were Hispanic, according to
Nielsen estimates.
