Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and his girlfriend, "Gladiator" actress Connie Nielsen, became the proud parents of a healthy baby boy, Bryce Thadeus Ulrich-Nielsen, who was born Monday.

The two who have been dating for more than two years, said a while ago they are "ecstatic" about becoming parents. The new baby joined half brothers 16-year-old Sebastian, Nielsen’s son from a previous relationship, 8-year-old Myles and 5-year-old Layne, from Lars Ulrich's marriage to Skylar Satenstein.

According to a statement made by Nielsen’s publicist, Craig Bankey, the Danish-born actress gave birth to the couple’s first child in San Francisco.

"Mother's doing well, dad's in awe, and brothers Layne, Myles, and Sebastian are psyched!" an announcement posted on Metallica’s web site said.

The actress’ movie credits include movies like "Gladiator," "Brothers," "The Situation" and "Devil’s Advocate," starring Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves.
