From “Star Trek” to “T.J. Hooker” and “The Practice,”
William Shatner has tried everything. However, at the respectable age of 77,
the actor decided to have a nice chat with several celebrities and find out about
their troubles. He may have left the helm of starship USS Enterprise a long
time ago, but he is ready to enjoy the road to the stars’ troubled lives.
“Shatner’s Raw Nerve,” scheduled to premiere on Tuesday on U.S.
cable television outlet Bio Channel, will feature appearances from famous
people who have something to say about their past adventures, mistakes or
personal crises, thus revealing important life lessons and pieces of advice
during a face-to-face talk with William Shatner.
In spite of the fact that the new show does not step away
from the clichés of a usual celebrity gossip program, it does offer a special facing
from time to time and a placidly new reflection, while stars bring to light
their histories with booze, drugs, deceit and misconduct.
During tonight’s premiere, William Shatner will interview
Valerie Bertinelli, a former child actress whose troubled past includes harsh
struggles with drugs and overindulging, as well as a not-very-pleasant divorce
from rock star Eddie Van Halen caused by infidelity.
Although the 48-year-old actress has been open about her
problems ever since she began confronting them, William Shatner wants to hear
the whole story again and again. I don’t know whether he was unaware of Valerie
Bertinelli’s personal issues, but I do know that “Raw Nerve” brings nothing
fresh to the tale.
Other episodes may actually prove to be more appealing, as
the show is due to include appearances by Tim Allen, Howie Mandel, Kelsey
Grammer, Jenna Jameson and Jon Voight.
