Writing on the PS3 official blog about the launch of PS3
Firmware 2.36, Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations, has
confirmed also some details about the next version, 2.40
“We’re also happy to officially report that the 2.40 system
software update for PS3 will include “XMB” access in-game,” he wrote.
Lempel said that the update will also include “trophies,” a
new feature that was initially scheduled to arrive in Sony’s Home project.
But as Home was delayed for the second time, it seems like
Sony will offer to the gamers the possibility to display their trophies,
unlocked through in-game milestones in PS3 games.
However, Lempel said that more details will be provided
soon, as well as some other new enhancements.
Meanwhile, the firmware 2.36, which brings some stability
improvements, is ready for download.
Unfortunately, Lempel didn't offer any possible launch date for the new firmware.
