Kenneth Kendrick, a former manager at the Peanut Corporation of America’s plant in Plainview, Texas, stated that he had tried so many times to fill complaints about the unsanitary conditions at the plants, which he had sent both to Stewart Parnell, the owner of the company, and the Texas Department of Health.
Today, during in an interview for „Good Morning America,” Kendrick said that he worked at the processing plant in Texas in 2006 and he had personally informed Parnell about the leaky roof and the infestations taking place at the plant. He added that not only water was leaking from the roof, but bird feces too.
Kendrick also said that Parnell never filled any check for paying to fix these unsanitary conditions in which the peanut butter had been made. The Peanut Corporation of America filed for bankruptcy on Friday, after three processing plants from Georgia, Texas and Virginia had been closed.
The corporation has been discovered to be the center of the salmonella infection which caused the death of nine people and sickened more than 600. Parnell was present at the court in Washington on Wednesday for a congressional hearing, but he refused answering any question to the lawmakers.
As Kendrick said during the interview, Parnell wouldn’t give the necessary money for the employees taking care of the financial part of the business. “The funds were not there,” he added. Yet, apparently any sick customers said nothing or didn’t blame them for a long time. But this wasn’t Parnell’s problem. His only problem was the money, Kendrick said.
On the other hand, Texas Department of Health searched through their archived e-mails and found nothing from Kendrick, who said that he hadn’t received any message back from the officials. The former manager decided to speak now because his granddaughter got sickened with salmonella for three weeks in December, after she had eaten peanut butter all the time.
