This year, Sony has the chance
to bring customers closer to PS3 through its creativity and innovation, Sony
marketing VP Scott Steinberg said in an interview with GamePro at the Game Developers Conference in February.
“Our competition has already leveraged all their big assets in the first couple
of years and may have punched themselves out of the fight.”
Apparently Sony discovered the
perfect formula for a great year, Steinberg seemed to say, as he talked about
various subjects, from the PS3 to Microsoft and Blu-ray.
First of all, the Blu-ray was so
much talked about, but none of the disputes, assumptions and rumors came from
Sony (it was unnecessary): “We don’t have to [give keynotes] when we have
Warner, Best Buy and Wal-Mart lining up behind the Blu-ray format,” said
Steinberg.
Blu-ray made it, will PS3 do the
same? Steinberg seems to think so: “2008 is going to be a monster year for the
PS3,” especially considering a couple of key elements – Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran
Turismo 5, Resistance 2 etc. The competition pales to PS3 this year, think
Steinberg, but we’ll just have to wait and see if his predictions will
materialize.
The strategy for a successful
PS3 year…maybe some PS1, PS2 classics, GamesPro suggested, and Steinberg couldn’t
have agreed more: “It is hard not to see that as a good idea.” However, for
those who expect Sony to actually make an announcement for that matter, that’s
not going to happen yet.
Just one week ago, Sony made the
announcement that it will revamp its online PlayStation store to better adjust
to users’ desires, and wants to set the bar high for PS3 in order to attract
consumers through innovation and creativity.
