An entire community is saddened by the sudden death of Uxbridge School Superintendent Daniel Stefanilo, 54, who suffered a massive heart attack over the weekend while sitting in a parked car waiting for his wife and children to come back from shopping.
A person walking by his car observed him unresponsive and notified paramedics. Unfortunately, it was too late. The heart attack he suffered was massive enough to cause his death.
When his wife returned to the Burlington Mall parking lot a tow truck was hitching up the car. She was told that her husband had suffered a medical emergency.
Ernest Esposito, Chairman of the Uxbridge School Committee, released a statement on the school’s web site praising Stefanilo.
“The entire school district is deeply saddened by the untimely death of Superintendent Dan Stefanilo. Dan was a tireless worker for all the children, pre-K through 12, and spent endless hours to do whatever was necessary for the educational success of those children. Dan was an outstanding educator and a wonderful person, a man of integrity and honesty who gave so much. He was always there for the kids, and he loved what he was doing. It will be difficult to replace him as a superintendent and a friend. Our hearts and prayers go out to Dan's wife, Nancy, and his children and grandchildren,” the statement read.
Stefanilo is survived by his wife, five children and two grandchildren.
