Stephen Colbert’s dream to have a spider named after him finally came true. When he heard that a biologist named a new species of spider after Neil Young, the comedian joked on the matter and demanded that a spider is named after him as well.

Now Jason Bond, the same biologist from East Carolina University, found a new spider and fulfilled Colbert’s desire, naming the trapdoor spider Aptostichus stephencolberti. Because Colbert doesn't pronounce the "t" in his last name, it will also be silent in the spider's name.

The spider Bond named after rock legend Neil Young is called Myrmekiaphila Neilyoungi.

During the July 31 broadcast of the Colbert Report, the show’s hthe spder named after him.ost said that the arachnid researcher would appear on the Comedy Central Show next Wednesday to show Colbert the spider named after him.

In his show Thursday, Colbert proudly announced that the same scientist that found the “Neil Young” spider, would name one in his honor as well.

“…And all I had to do was shamelessly beg on national television,” Colbert joked.

He also said that there were 27 spiders that were being considered for the honor of being named after him.

Already named after Mr. Colbert are a Virgin American airplane, a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor and a bald eagle from the San Francisco Zoo.
