Comcast is planning a new service, a communication center, which
intends to integrate various communications tools. The new service, called
Smartzone will offer customers a central location where they will be able to send
and receive email, check voicemail online, send instant messages and manage a
new address book.
"With the SmartZone communications center, we continue
to provide superior value to Triple Play customers by putting a suite of
communications tools right at their fingertips. From one central dashboard,
they will now be able to manage all of their communications needs as well as
customize their experience," said Greg Butz, Senior Vice President,
Product Development for Comcast.
In order to create this service, Comcast will work with
several companies like HP, Plaxo and Zimbra.
For example, Plaxo will create the “smart address book” that
gives users a single, self- updating address book they can use within a wide
variety of communication tools, services and mobile devices. Zimbra will
deliver a rich, integrated email and Visual Voice Mail communications platform,
based on Web 2.0 technologies.
The safety of Comcast's SmartZone communications center will
be handled by Bizanga's email anti-abuse system, Cloudmark's email anti-spam
and anti- phishing tools and Trend Micro's anti-virus software. Comcast’s SmartZone which is scheduled to be
launched later this year, wil be available through company’s main site.
