Columnist Robert D. Novak announced his immediate retirement from his professional career following a dim prognosis in his battle against a brain tumor. The 77-year-old conservative Sun-Times political commentator received the bad news from doctors last week that had brain tumor. Shortly after the diagnosis, he was admitted to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston for treatment.
At the time of his hospital admittance, Novak had announced in a statement that he was "suspending my journalistic work for an indefinite but, God willing, not too lengthy period." He was rushed to the hospital on 27th July after feeling ill while he and his wife, Geraldine, were visiting their daughter in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
A few days before being taken to hospital for analysis, Novak hit a pedestrian at a downtown Washington intersection while driving his Corvette. He told reporters that he did not realize that he had hit someone until a passing bicyclist flagged him down.
Novak, who’s syndicated political column is one of the most influential and widely read in the country, has been diagnosed with cancer at least three times. In 2003 her he underwent surgery to remove a cancerous growth on his kidney.
The well-known columnist was already producing a subscription newsletter, the Evans-Novak Political Report, and was also appearing on a regular basis for two decades on CNN and, more recently, on the Fox News Channel. Over his 45-year career, the syndicated columnist and journalist has been writing the longest-running current U.S. syndicated political column - Inside Report since 1963.
