Following a recent movement in the music business, the Brit
group Coldplay is joining the move started by their colleagues from Radiohead.
However,
they are less radical. In order to promote their upcoming album, Coldplay’s members
have announced that “Violet Hill”, the first single from “Viva La Viva” or “Death
And All His Friends” (the alternative title of the album) will be made available
as a free download for one week from their website.
“From Tuesday, 12:15 pm UK time for one week only you can
come here to download a free copy of a new song called Violet Hill,” reads an announcement
posted on the band’s website.
In addition, Coldplay announced two free shows, one in London at Brixton
Academy on June 16 and the other one in
New York at Madison Square
Garden on June 23. The
details about how the tickets will be given away will be announced on the
website.
“Viva La Vida” will be launched on Jun 12 and the album
includes 10 tracks: “Life In Technicolor”, “Cemeteries of London”, “Lost!”, “42”,
“Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love”, “Yes”, “Viva la Vida”, “Violet Hill”, “Strawberry Swing” and “Death
And All His Friend”.
Last year, Radiohead made their “In Rainbows” album
available over the Internet in an unusual manner: pay as much as you want for
the album. Earlier this year, the rockers from Nine Inch Nails offered 9 of the
36 tracks on the “Ghosts: I – IV” album available via Internet for free.
