A study carried on at the Autonoma University of Madrid, Spain, found that people who are dinking up to six cups of coffee a day do not have an increase chance of dying compared to people who don’t drink or drink less coffee. What is more, if you are a woman, that drinking coffee might even diminish the chance of you dying of heart disease.
The study was carried on a number of 84,000 women and 41,000 men and spanned over a period of 24 years, form 1980 to 2004, for women, and 18 years, from 1986 to 2004, for men. Initially, every person that was included in the study had not been diagnosed with heart disease or cancer. Every two years, these persons had to report about their health condition, as well as their coffee drinking habits.
Other factors that influence health, such as smoking, living conditions, body weight or fitness activity were taking into account during the whole period of time that the study went on. After processing the huge amount of information, the study found that coffee drinking women had a 25 percent less risk of developing a heart disease than the women who didn’t drink the beverage. What is more, the risk of getting a fatal disease, other than cancer or heart disease, was 18 percent lower also.
However, coffee seems not to influence cancer in any way. An interesting thing was that both women who drank decaf and normal coffee had the same chance of getting a disease. What this means is that caffeine doesn’t seem to be the substance responsible for these good effects.
