Clooney and Zellweger on Media Tour

George Clooney and Renee Zellweger will be in Duluth next week, starting a four-city media tour promoting their upcoming movie “Leatherheads.”

Clooney, 46, had a lot of work to do in this project, being the star, the director and the producer of the romantic comedy inspired by the Duluth Eskimos football team in 1925.

The film tells the story of Dodge Connolly (George Clooney), a football hero and entrepreneur, who tries to guide his team to success. He thinks of hiring Carter Rutherford, a college football star and war hero, and that turns out to be a great idea. Renee Zellweger plays the role of a journalist who investigates Carter’s war story, trying to discover any missing parts.

“Leatherheads” was filmed in several locations in the Carolinas, including Greenville, Anderson, Boiling Springs and Ware Shoals.

Universal Pictures announced that the movie would open nationwide on April 4. The premiere in Greensville excited the inhabitants of the small town. There will be a 75 feet long red carpet, brought from Bonitz Flooring Group on the east side of Greenville, S.C., The New York Times informs. The guests will be chauffeured to the premiere’s location in at least seven limousines. The tickets are $25 each, with the profits going to charity, for a project to stop hunger in Darfur, one of Clooney’s favorite causes. George Clooney is not expected to attend the event, but his publicist said he would return to promote the film.

In Maysville, the premiere is based on invitation and will take place in Washington Opera House. People will be allowed to stand along the red carpet, like they do at the Oscars, a Universal representative said. It could be Maysville greatest event since George’s aunt Rosemary Clooney premiered here her 1953 film, “The Stars are Singing,” The Enquirer informs.
