Clickjacking Threat

The Internet is well known for the fact that it’s an excellent provider of information, or because you can use it to buy all sorts of interesting things; but as maneuverable as it is, some might know that the Internet is also a dangerous place to be.

The dangers one can encounter online are from viruses to all your money being wiped out from your bank account. Talented hackers can break into your computer and practically spy on you and learn valuable personal information. Among all of these things, the Internet also presents the threat of clickjacking.

Clickjacking is a method hackers use in order to trick internet users to click things that they don’t really see. Hacked sites can provide the necessary environment for a clickjacking attack to occur. It all goes down like this: the user is clicking on some random things, on some random site but what he doesn’t know is that he is also clicking an invisible button that sends information to other sites. Using this information, hackers can break into one’s computer, activate their webcam and microphone, and so learning precious personal information.

Clickjacking attacks break into computers using settings from programs such as Flash, Java, Silverlight or game applications. Because this is a relatively new threat companies only now started to produce patches that would allow for a safer trip on the net. Internet browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari or Google Chrome are all exposed to the dangers of clickjacking.

Some voices are heard saying that because of the large variety of Internet browsers and the fact that all of these browsers are so different from one another will only benefit clickjackers. Until now, Adobe is the only company that gave advice on how to prevent clickjacking. Security patches are expected from all the browsers and hopefully these security updates will be able to keep Internet users safe.
