Roger Clemens still has to put
up with the consequences of the Mitchell report being made public. It’s been a
rough end of the year for the seven-time award winner 45-year-old, who finds
himself in the position to claim his innocence through all means possible. He
refused to talk to the reporters or Mitchell himself. Instead, he went directly
for the people, in a desperate attempt to obtain some sympathy.
His latest public denial took
place on Sunday, when Clemens released his own video on YouTube: “The answer is
no, I did not use steroids, human growth hormone, and I’ve never done so.”
Clemens also mentioned in his
video Brian McNamee, his former personal trainer, who provided George Mitchell
with details on how he used to inject drugs to Roger Clemens while pitching for
the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees: “I did not provide Brian
McNamee with any drugs to inject into my body. Brian McNamee did not inject
steroids or human growth hormones into my body, either when I played in Toronto
for the Blue Jeans or the New York Yankees.”
He also mentioned the past few
weeks have been hard on his family and especially his children, and that he is
holding on better than the rest of the family: “I’m almost numb at some of
these suggestions that I would ever use steroids.”
The accusations of having used
steroids and human growth hormone followed another scandal Clemens had been
involved in last year, when The Times reported that he was one of the players
accused of steroid abuse in former pitcher Jason Grimsley’s affidavit, which proved
to be false information.
Following the public allegations
against him, Clemens claims his innocence by clearly stating he has been
unfairly treated: “I faced this last year when the L.A. Times reported that I used
steroids. I said it was not true then, and now the whole world knows it’s not
true, now that that’s come out.”
