Stars may want to keep details concerning their sexuality
under wraps, but that doesn’t mean people can’t figure it out by themselves.
Sometimes, when rumors aren’t seen as mere gossip anymore, eventual confessions
don’t come as a surprise.
In addition to this, such declarations may generate even
more buzz and fuss regarding the particular subjects, so why bother?
This is the case of Clay Aiken, who recently admitted being
gay. The revelation hasn’t taken the wind out of anyone’s sails, not even Simon
Cowell’s. However, everybody was ecstatic about the much longed for confession.
When asked about his reaction towards the former “American
Idol” contestant’s disclosure, the talent show’s judge responded in a
characteristically ironic way, telling the entertainment news show “Extra” that
learning about Clay Aiken’s sexual orientation was like “being told Santa Claus
isn’t real.”
Okay, we got it. Still, we can’t just forget the times when
we really believed Santa Claus existed and that he was the one to bring us
presents every Christmas.
The 29-year-old ex “American Idol” runner-up, who began his
rise to fame during the second season of the popular television program, unearthed
all of his sexuality-related secrets in a much talked about interview with
People magazine. All the buzz and thrill around other celebrity-linked topics
left their initial targets in a jiffy and focused on the “Clay Is Gay” matter.
Clay Aiken, nonetheless, tried to make his confession as
clean and clear as possible. He is to be seen on the cover of the latest issue
of People magazine, holding his 1-month-old son, Parker Foster Aiken, outshined
by a big and sparkly headline, “Yes, I’m Gay.”
Who could have done it better?
You may be wondering, however, how Clay got to have a son in
the first place if he is not straight. Well, Parker Foster Aiken was conceived
by in-vitro fertilization with friend and music producer Jaymes Foster.
In spite of the fact that people close to Clay Aiken did not
show any shock or surprise with regard to the heavily discussed news, the star’s
fans, going by the name of Claymates, were flabbergasted or at least they
seemed to be. Starting with Wednesday afternoon, some reportedly 2,000 messages
hit Clay Aiken’s official Web site.
All the messages and questions appear to have left the
singer “speechless,” but not everyone can have access to the page. In order to
read Clay Aiken’s most recent blog and post a message, you have to join his fan
club. And it’s not free. Membership fees range from $14.99, as well as tax, to
$29.99, plus shipping and handling for several Clay Aiken products, such as a
tote bag, lip balm and a set of buttons.
Other Clay Aiken fan sites, however, are not restricted and,
generally, the messages posted by the star’s admirers showed their support and
love.
Some fans may have been a little shaken by the news, but
that’s the way things go and one should act maturely about it.
In his interview with People, Clay Aiken said that his baby
was the one to open his eyes and make him realize that he should no longer hide
his sexual orientation.
We appreciate Clay’s sincerity and wish him all the best,
notwithstanding the gender-related choices he made throughout time.
