Clay Aiken knows the meaning of true friendship. Enough so
that he helped record producer and friend Jaymes Foster become pregnant.
TMZ.com was first to report that American Idol contestant
Clay Aiken would be a father. “Multiple sources” told the website that the
mother would be 50-year-old Jaymes Foster, a record producer Aiken has
collaborated with and who also happens to be his “best friend.”
TMZ added that the 29-year-old Aiken lives at his friend’s
house when he is in Los Angeles.
The report has meanwhile been confirmed, with record mogul
David Foster confirming to People that his sister has indeed been impregnated
by Aiken. “The story is true,” he told the magazine. “It is true Clay is the
father. She was artificially inseminated by Clay. She’s due in August.”
David Foster also explained that the two have been friends
ever since Aiken’s participation on the second season of television program “American
Idol” in 2003, “when they worked together.”
Aiken’s representative has not commented on the reports yet.
The singer will supposedly be active in raising the baby. He has no other
children. The mother-to-be divorced a few years back and has no kids.
The pregnancy comes as a surprise as Aiken has continually
refused to discuss his sexuality, arguing that such an aspect of his private
life is not quite relevant to his singing career.
Last month, he told “Access Hollywood” that the reason he
went on “American Idol” was “to be a singer…. to be an entertainer, and that’s
what my priority is.”
Although Aiken lost to Ruben Studdard in 2003, he made quite
an impression and soon launched a musical career. He released his first solo
album, “Measure of a Man,” in 2003, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200. His
latest studio effort, “On My Way Here,” released in early May, debuted at No. 4
on the Billboard 200.
Aiken has also dabbled in hosting various shows such as “The
Morning Show with Mike and Juliet” and “Live with Regis and Kelly,” as well as
performing in the Broadway production of “Monty Python's Spamalot,” Mike
Nichols’ comedic musical.
