We live in a world where staying green has become an important part of our existence, and Cisco Systems has made a commitment to offering an efficient way of reducing the environmental impact of businesses and improve their energy efficiency.
This week, Cisco introduced the EnergyWise technology, which will help businesses put a stake through the heart of “vampire power,” the energy drawn by many electrical devices even when they are not in use.
Cisco is thus offering a solution for businesses that will allow them to implement cost-reduction strategies, while keeping their productivity intact.
Neal Elliott of the American Council for Energy-Efficient Economy said in a statement that many companies have overlooked the energy aspect in their business, instead focusing on worker productivity to reduce costs.
But that is not the case anymore, Elliott pointed out. Now, this is no longer a tree-hugger issue, he added, but a key to business success.
EnergyWise is basically a free software upgrade to Cisco’s Catalyst line of network switches, but if now it addresses businesses in particular, the company said the situation will change, and in the future EnergyWise will also address energy usage for personal computers and printers, and perhaps for other devices as well, such as elevators, heating systems and lighting.
But major corporations are without a doubt the major contributors to the environmental stage, Cisco explained, and this also makes them important players in shaping a healthy economy based on greener standards.
According to the EPA, an increasing number of companies are interested in green programs, compared to the previous years. This is an encouraging sign that big players know their game now, and will contribute to the green stage in ways that will open up the path for the rest of the world to follow.
