Celebrities certainly are great role models in some cases.
Attending the first award ceremony since she was diagnosed
with breast cancer, Christina Applegate looked stunning on the Emmy red carpet
on Sunday night in a powder blue dress with golden highlights and seemed really
happy.
“It’s a great day … I’ve got a pretty dress on and lipstick,
and [it’s] something I haven’t done in two months,” the actress who won the
battle with the disease declared, according to PEOPLE.
Describing the things she has gone through during her
treatment, which included a double mastectomy, the 36-year-old “Samantha Who?”
star said that in spite of the things that get you down, you have to “really,
really embrace your life.”
Although she did not win the Best Actress in a comedy prize,
Christina Applegate told “Access Hollywood” that her presence at last night’s
award show was “a victory” and that she was delighted she was able to attend
the event.
“One thing my mother always used to say when she was going
through cancer, was she said cancer is a word, not a sentence, and being here
and being in a dress and feeling good, it’s such a victory,” the actress
reportedly said. “You can get past this thing and all of those things that
defines you as a woman. There’s so many other things that define you as a
woman, so you know, I’m alive and I feel fantastic.”
Last month, Christina Applegate’s representative disclosed
that the actress had been diagnosed and was receiving treatment for breast
cancer. After undergoing the double mastectomy, she declared that she was 100
percent cancer-free.
Christina Applegate also said that her colleagues had been
there for her, that they offered all their help and support and that she’s
happy to be working again.
