Actress Christina Applegate, best known for playing Kelly Bundy on TV comedy “Married… With Children” has been diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer, the actress’ rep said.

“Christina Applegate was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. Benefiting from early detection through a doctor ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening,” a rep for the 36-year-old “Samantha Who?” Emmy nominee said in a statement. The rep added: “Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery. No further statement will be issued at this time.”

Applegate, 36, was diagnosed with cancer during a regular MRI, spokeswoman Ame Van Iden told Reuters.

The character of Sue Ellen Crandell in the comedy feature “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” (1991) was her first starring role.

Applegate plays the title character in ABC’s comedy “Samantha Who,” co-starring Jean Smart, Jennifer Esposito, and Melissa McCarthy. The actress won an Emmy for outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2003 for her portrayal of Amy Green, the younger sister of Jennifer Aniston’s character on “Friends.”

The 36-year-old Emmy nominee is set to appear Sept. 8 alongside Meryl Streep, Sally Field, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson and Charlize Theron in the telethon “Stand Up to Cancer,” which will be simultaneously broadcast on CBS, NBC and ABC.

It sounds like the irony of fate that the actress has been an advocate for breast cancer research.

Last month, Christina Applegate’s close friend and former boyfriend was found dead in his Hollywood apartment of an apparent drug overdose. Lee Grivas, 26 was a skateboarder and a photographer and the two had been dating for more than two years. Applegate started dating the photographer about a year after her divorce from Jonathan Schaech.
