Former “Married with Children” actress Christina Applegate
has been diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer but full recovery is
expected, her publicist revealed over the weekend.
Ame Van Iden said in a statement late Saturday that
Christina Applegate has been diagnosed with cancer which “is not life
threatening” and that she is already “following the recommended treatment of
her doctors.”
The 36-year-old will have “a full recovery,” the publicist
said. Luckily for her, the actress benefited from early detection
after her doctor ordered an MRI.
Christina Applegate is best known for her longtime role as
ditzy blonde Kelly Bundy on “Married with Children,” which kick started her career
in the late 1980s. When the comedy ended after 11 successful seasons, Applegate’s
career continued to thrive.
In 2003, she won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a
Comedy Series for her portrayal of Amy Green, the younger sister of Jennifer
Aniston’s character on “Friends.” Two years later, she received a Tony Award
nomination for her Broadway role in “Sweet Charity.”
Applegate has been starring in ABC’s comedy “Samantha Who?”
where she plays the title character, a young woman who has awaken from an
eight-day come only to discover she cannot remember her past.
The role has earned her both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
Come Sept. 5, we will see Christina Applegate among other
celebrities such as Meryl Streep and Charlize Theron in “Stand Up to Cancer,” a
one-hour television special aiming to raise funds for cancer research. It will
air on ABC, CBS and NBC.
