Christian Slater Torn between Two Identities in "My Own Worst Enemy”

On Monday, NBC’s TV series „My Own Worst Enemy ” premiered, offering viewers a glimpse at Christian Slater’s very mind, which turned out to be torn between two different identities.

In the series, Slater plays Henry Spivey, a middle-class management consultant who seems to be your typical suburban dad, having two children, a dog and a minivan to go with all that.

Nevertheless, as soon as he falls asleep, Spivey ceases to exist, being replaced by Edward Albright, a 13-language speaking operative who can run the mile in four minutes and, just to spice things up a bit, is also a trained assassin.

The lead character’s double identity is the aftermath of a scientific experiment that has been conducted by a secret government organization going by the name of „Janus.”

Led by Mavis Heller, the agency has its headquarters just below the company that Henry Spivey works for.

The plot twist consists in Spivey somehow managing to interfere with Albright’s espionage missions, mixed with the fact that there is no clear hint about which of the two is the original person and which the spawn of the mysterious experiment.

The series’ split personality theme stems from the story about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde-a kind man faced with his evil alter-ego- Henry and Edward being the same first names that Robert Louis Stevenson gave to his two aforementioned characters in his „Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” novella.

Christian Slater, 39, made his big screen debut back in 1985 in the film „The Legend of Billie Jean.” He has since been cast in movies such as „Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,” „True Romance,”„Hollow Man 2,” and „He Was a Quiet Man.”
