Christian Bale’s Mum Upset Over Her Son’s Onset Tantrum

Everyone is busy judging actor Christian Bale for lashing out at one of his colleagues while on the set of his upcoming movie “Terminator: Salvation” except for his mother, who was overwhelmed with concern after listening to the leaked audiotape of the actor yelling and swearing director of photography Shane Hurlbut, who interrupted Bale while shooting a scene.

Bale dropped the f-word around forty times in nearly four minutes. He clearly sounded angry, and even threatened to quit the movie unless Hulbut would be fired. Eventually, the actor tried to temper it by saying “you’re a nice guy” and generally focused his ire on his scene being ruined, saying he had never worked with someone so unprofessional.

Speaking out on her son’s angry outburst, which occurred a few months back, Jenny Bale, said it was “upsetting” to hear the audiotape, but she understood why her son reacted that way claiming he is a “perfectionist.”

“I haven't spoken to Christian about it, but I have listened to most of it and he was clearly very angry. He is a perfectionist and if you are doing an intense scene and someone is spoiling a shot, it takes time to get it back,” his mother said in a phone interview, adding that she understood the anger but not the length of the rant.

Hopefully for the 61-year-year old woman, the incident will help shed some light into Bale’s arrest on charges of assault last summer. The outburst occurred just days before the actor was taken into custody for allegedly throwing a similar tantrum at his mother and sister while in London for the premiere of “The Dark Knight.”

“People might now realize that that is his temper, they might understand a bit more. I wish he hadn't carried this on so long or so fiercely, it was upsetting to hear him,” Jenny said.

But while the media is still fussing over Bale’s behaviour, people who witnessed the scene are speaking out and they turned out to be very understanding of his meltdown, claiming he was shooting an incredibly intense scene, the most emotionally draining and powerful moment of the film, and the cinematographer messed up the lights when Bale was most focused to get the scene right.

Assistant director and associate producer on the film, Bruce Franklin, who has been working with the actor for a second movie, praised Bale for being a “consummate professional” and dismissed the moment saying it happened and it passed. He also said it was unfair for Bale that the incident was taken out of context this way and repeated over and over again.

Others speaking in Bale’s defense include “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who pointed out that people rushed to criticize him without knowing all the facts.

“We don't know if this is at the end of the day. We don't know how many hours he has been working and it's tough. I mean I know it sounds ridiculous but I too have gone off on people because if you're a professional you know what you're not supposed to do. It is your art form,” she said.
The actor himself hasn’t commented on the incident yet.
