Finally, some more information is surfacing in the
surprising arrest of Christian Bale and it all sounds like a family feud gone
terribly wrong.
The Daily Mail online reported Wednesday that Christian Bale
was having a discussion with mother Jenny Bale, 61, at London’s Dorchester Hotel on Sunday, which
quickly degenerated into an angry argument.
Jenny Bale allegedly insulted the actor’s wife and Christian
Bale lost his temper and spoke harshly.
Such clashes have apparently happened before in Bale’s family
and he had found a solution, that is, walk out of the room, but this time around
he was stuck in the suite because fans and paparazzi were crowding outside
waiting to get a glimpse of him.
“The Dark Knight,” in which he stars as the Caped Crusader,
had its European premiere the following day. He was in town with his family to
attend the event.
A source told the Mail, regarding the alleged incident, “Christian
was stressed, but he didn’t lay a finger on anyone.”
“He just flew off the handle and cussed at his mother. He
just got very loud because his mother was saying some very outrageous things
about him, and his wife.”
Christian Bale has been married for eight years to Sandra ‘Sibi’
Blazic, a former model turned make-up artist. The couple has a three-year-old
daughter.
The plot thickens, now that the same source told the Mail that
Bale’s marriage is in a delicate moment right. “He has stresses in his marriage.
He can have a terrible temper. Instead of lashing out at his wife, he sometimes
lashes out at people around him.”
The same source also explained that while his union with
Sibi may not be perfect (what marriage is?), his relationship with his mother “is
in much more trouble.”
So much so that the arrest which ensued has apparently upset
Christian Bale less than his mother’s words.
Jenny Bale and Sharon Bale, the actor’s sister, filed the
police complaint against the actor on Monday at a Hampshire police
station. The case was turned over to London
police.
Christian Bale was arrested Tuesday and taken in for
questioning. Four hours later, he was released on bail. People.com quotes a
police spokesperson saying the actor left the police station Tuesday afternoon with
a 10-man police escort, in a blacked-out silver Mercedes people carrier.
He is to return in September, pending further inquiry.
The Mail further reports that Christian Bale has been grieving
for his friend Heath Ledger, whom he became close with during the filming of “I’m
Not There.” Heath Ledger’s role in “The Dark Knight” as the Joker, Batman’s
nemesis, is his last completed one.
The source told the British paper that Bale wished he could
have shared the excitement of releasing and promoting the project with his friend
and that it has been hard to go through this.
“It’s foolish to think that he’s been able to completely
shake off that grief just as Heath and his work is finally being seen by
audiences,” the source said.
Bale’s publicists released a statement Tuesday saying the
34-year-old actor went to the police station voluntarily, that he was
cooperating with authorities and that he denies the assault allegations.
