British police said "Dark Knight" star Christian Bale will not be facing charges in connection n to an assault allegation filed by his mother and sister, the Associated Press reports.
Due to insufficient evidence, Britain's Crown Prosecution Service claimed on Thursday there is no "realistic prospect of conviction" ordering the police to not pursue the case any further.
A CPS spokesman was quoted by the Guardian as saying, "We can today confirm that we have advised the Metropolitan Police Service that the actor Christian Bale should not face any charges following an incident which occurred in relation to his mother and sister at the Dorchester hotel on 21 July this year."
"Whilst the CPS treats all incidents which take place in a domestic context seriously, it is important that the views of complainants are also taken into account when making decisions in such case," he said.
"Taking all the factors into consideration, the decision has been taken that there is insufficient evidence to afford a realistic prospect of conviction, and accordingly the police have been advised that no further action should be taken against Mr. Bale."
Still, British prosecutors have recommended to police that Bale be cautioned rather than charged over the allegations. A recent statement said: "Bale will have to admit guilt to get a caution when he answers bail next month. Cops can still charge him if he refuses."
According to his spokeswoman, Jennifer Allen, the 34-year-old Welsh-born actor, who was arrested last month after allegedly pushing and shoving his mother and one of his three sisters in his suite at London's upmarket Dorchester Hotel, said he was is "relieved" the issue has been resolved and now hopes "to put the matter firmly behind him." "Mr. Bale considers this to be a deeply personal matter and would ask that the media respect both his and his family's privacy," Allen added.
Bale was arrested after turning himself into police for questioning after his mother and sister accused him of assault while in London for the premiere of his latest Batman movie. Shortly after his arrest, attorneys for Bale issued a statement denying any assault took place. According to reports at the time, the actor was having a discussion with mother Jenny Bale, 61, which quickly degenerated into an angry argument.
Declining to speak about the incident, Bale insisted it was a "deeply personal matter" and pleaded that the media respects his privacy.
The controversy went unnoticed for "The Dark Knight" at the box office: The thriller, in which Bale reprises the role of wealthy playboy Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter-ego Batman, earned $26 million this past week — claiming the No. 1 spot for the fourth weekend in a row — and is now the third-biggest film of all time.
