The now infamous audiotape of Christian Bale's on-set angry outburst while shooting "Terminator: Salvation" has only been out a week and is already the stuff of legend. Now the actor finally decided to talk about the controversy sparked by his tantrum.

Calling in to a Los Angeles radio station on Friday, Bale tried to explain his reaction and addressed a heartfelt apology to cinematographer Shane Hurlbut who triggered his almost four-minute rant by apparently walking behind costar Bryce Dallas Howard and through Bale's line of sigh on the set.  

"Listen, I know I have a pottymouth, everybody knows that now, but I understand this is live, so please don't worry, I will behave," the 35-year-old "Dark Knight" star said Friday on "The Kevin & Bean Show" on L.A.'s KROQ 106.7.  "I have no confusion whatsoever -- I was out of order, beyond belief,"

"I acted like a punk. I regret that," a very remorseful Bale continued. "There is nobody who has heard that tape that has been hit harder by it than me. It is inexcusable and I hope that is absolutely clear."

Moreover, the actor said he had "a miserable week," that the issue over the tape has affected him deeply, and that he doesn't want everyone to think now that he thinks he is better than everyone else, while he considers himself an actor and hasn't quite gotten his way around what being a movie star means.

"I completely mixed up fact and fiction, I'm half John Connor, I'm half Christian there," he added, dismissing his threats of getting Hurlbut fired as "hot air" and told the station that they had reconciled since the showdown.

After the tape was leaked, it became an instant hit among Internet users and was parodied unmercifully in the media, an amusing remix has received over 1.6 million views on YouTube.

People got divided over whether the tape should have been leaked or not, and if Bale was clearly in the wrong or if he had an understandable fit of anger. According to an assistant director and associate producer on the film, Bale was in the middle of shooting the most intense scene in the film when the lighting technician with whom he’d had the same issue with in the past walked in.

Bale's own mother spoke to the media saying she was upset that her son had thrown such a tantrum, but she also hoped that the public would get a better understating of last summer's London incident when the actor was arrested for allegedly assaulting his mother and sister. She also noted that while she understood why he was upset, he shouldn’t have carried on so long with it.
