Welsh actor Christian Bale is supposedly facing questioning
by police over claims he assaulted two family members in London this weekend.
The Press Association reports Scotland Yard has received a
complaint from the star’s mother and sister over an alleged incident in central
London which took
place Sunday night.
The actor was in town to promote his newly released film, “The
Dark Knight” and was in his suite at Park Lane’s
Dorchester Hotel when he allegedly “lashed out.” His mother, who is in her 60s,
and his sister, who is 40, both living in Dorset,
reportedly went to a Hampshire police station to make their allegations
formally.
The complaint regarding the 34-year-old actor was then
passed to the Metropolitan Police for further investigation, reports the Press
Association.
Despite the alleged incident, Christian Bale attended the
first European screening of “The Dark Knight” in full star glory Monday night,
at the Odeon West End cinema in Leicester
Square. He was joined by co-stars Aaron Eckhart,
Maggie Gyllenhaal and Michael Caine.
London’s Metropolitan Police
have meanwhile confirmed that they have “received an allegation from another
force in relation to an alleged incident in central London.”
UK
newspaper “The Sun” was first to report the story.
Whatever trouble may have happened Sunday night, Christian
Bale can well be proud of his new project. Film critics have given it a warm
welcome, fans as well and the box office results exceeded everyone’s
expectations.
According to the latest estimate from distributor Warner
Bros. Pictures, “The Dark Knight” earned $158.4 million in ticket sales in the Friday
thru Sunday period in theatres across North America.
The film thus beat the previous North American box-office
opening record of $151.1 million which “Spider-Man 3” set last year.
Christian Bale first donned the batsuit in 2005, in the
Chris Nolan-directed “Batman Begins.”
He will next appear as John Connor, in “Terminator
Salvation,” due out next year.
