Saturday
morning, “Twilight” novel series author Stephenie Meyer revealed in a
post on her official website that Chris Weitz would be directing the „New Moon" sequel
to the 2008 „Twilight” movie.
Weitz has shown the world his skills at adapting modern novels for the screen with his „About a
Boy” movie drawing on a novel by Nick Hornby, which earned the director and co-scripters
Paul Weitz and Peter Hedges an Academy Award nomination for best adapted
screenplay.
In a letter Meyer included with her post on the website, Chris
Weitz stated for the fans that he promised to take into account their hopes and
fears when it came to making the „Twilight” sequel.
“Twilight”
is a romantic horror drama starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson
and Billy Burke, which opened in United States theaters on November 21, bringing teenage girls to a very craze. The movie
tells the love story between high school girl Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, a
witty and handsome man who turns out to be a vampire who has not aged since
1918.
Even though he doesn’t feed on human blood, being part of
clan of „vegetarian” vampires, Cullen comes to be torn between his love for
Bella and his underlying thirst for her blood as the two grow fonder of each
other.
With opening
revenue that exceeded pundits’ predictions for the movie, „Twilight”
managed to become quite a phenomenon, which prompted Summit Entertainment NV, the
film studio that produced it, to take on the responsibility of making a sequel.
„Twilight” was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who due to
the movie, has come to hold the record for best opening-weekend box office for a
female director.
